Interest in motorhome travel is on the rise. During the first quarter, the number of new registrations increased by 60 percent, according to figures from the Swedish Motorhome Industry Association (HRF).
“During the pandemic, motorhome sales rose sharply. But when the war in Ukraine started, people became hesitant to buy. At the same time, the industry was hit by component shortages, rising interest rates, and a recession. But now we’re making a comeback,” says Jonas Karlsson.
There’s been a major shift in how people want to use their motorhomes. It’s no longer just about going away for four weeks in July. More and more people want the freedom to go anytime – to a golf course for the weekend, a child’s football tournament, or a ski resort in winter.
The survey also shows that 34 percent see the motorhome as an affordable vacation option. However, a used motorhome typically costs at least half a million SEK (approx. €45,500), and a new one will set you back at least a million SEK (approx. €91,000).
“It’s a significant investment. But if you consider how much you can use the motorhome over time, compared to flying abroad several times a year with your family, it suddenly doesn’t seem as expensive. Plus, motorhomes tend to retain their value very well.”
Expert’s comment:
“This is top-tier quality in both performance and comfort. It drives like a regular car, which is great all year round, especially in winter. Since it’s a true winter motorhome, that’s worth noting. It’s built on a Mercedes Sprinter with an AL-KO chassis. You can choose between high or low single beds, or a corner bed that gives a spacious feel in the living area. There’s also an extra-slim version called Novum Compact – perfect if you want a more agile vehicle with extra load capacity.”
Price: From approximately 121.250 €
