From forestry machinery to camping life

Published

Rickard Persson is a lumberjack and spends his workdays in the machine cabin. In his free time, he swaps spruce and pine trees for camping life with his fiancée Malin and their four children.

Rickard and Malin are expecting. They already have four children, so this time it’s not the stork they’re looking forward to. The addition this year is a new KABE, and it’s not just any model. Hacienda 1000 TDL is KABE’s largest model, measuring 1160 centimeters in length with a living area of 22 square meters. Rickard and Malin have chosen the E9/DU floor plan with sleeping accommodations for six people and a bathroom with a separate shower cabin located at the very back. – We’ve had other brands before, but we feel most comfortable with KABE. Above all, the winter properties have been crucial for us, says Rickard. In everyday life, he and his brother Mikael work in the family business that harvests forest for Sveaskog. After long days in the woods, something completely different awaits. A mobile home that gives the family distance from everyday life. – When you run your own business, it’s nice just to get away. There’s always something that needs to be done at home, but in the caravan, you’re in the moment, says Rickard.

Seasonal Site in Sälen

With four children aged two to ten years, the layout is absolutely central for Rickard and Malin. The new caravan, which will be delivered in the spring, has been chosen with their needs in mind. Plenty of sleeping spaces, a large seating area, and solutions that work when everyone is together.
– We need space. It should work both when the children are playing and when everyone is sleeping.

Over the past five years, the family has had a seasonal site at Tandådalen in Sälen, where the caravan has been parked from fall to spring. Whenever possible, they have gone up – sometimes for a weekend, sometimes longer.
– It feels like a vacation every time we go there, even if there’s a bit of work sometimes with snow and shoveling.

The family enjoys visiting the archipelago town of Västervik on the east coast.

Dreaming of Croatia

Summers look different. During this time, the family often heads their vehicle towards Öland or Västervik, with Böda Sand as a recurring favorite. Some years, they have spent over a hundred nights in the caravan.

– The children become pleasantly tired from being outdoors, playing board games, socializing, and stressing less. It’s simple, in a good way.

The dream also exists of longer trips, perhaps to Croatia someday in the future when the children are older. For Rickard and Malin, the caravan life is a way to maintain balance, a rolling sanctuary where the family can be together, regardless of the season. This summer, a milestone awaits that does not involve the caravan.

– We are getting married, Malin and I. That time, the KABE won’t be involved. But afterwards, when we are truly married, many new caravan adventures await, concludes Rickard Persson.

Classic Swedish Midsummer celebration.
